Early mid summer
Flowers in bloom
But in the far distance
Winter does loom.
It is ignored by the flowers
They live for today.
They enjoy each other's company
As they talk and they play.
Happy and warm
They enjoy the heat
Their roots in soil
Untouched by feet.
But to their surprise
Suddenly, one day
Big clouds came by
And took the sun away.
With the sun gone
The heat dropped fast
And the coldness froze memories
Of the warmth of the past.
The quick short frost
Left the flowers in pain
Not to feel better
Until the sun came again.
The sun broke the clouds
The flowers once more warm
With no permanent damage
From the short summer storm.
They live on happily
Knowing no fear
But they are blind in their bliss:
Winter is more near.
