Slow steps on a wet, sandy beach

Dodging the light where the cold moon doesn't reach.

Too far apart, a heavy heart.

Empty footprints filled with water, the sea foam lingers,

Collar pulled up around the neck to protect from icy wind fingers

Waves break, a heart aches.

Unseeing, not uncaring eyes smoothly trace the cliff

While mind races over absence: cold, deep drift.

Confusion, disillusion.

Sitting on an uncomfortable rock -- a martyr's dream,

Shivering, chattering teeth conceal an inner scream.

Who's gone now? Too long now.

Cruel words, fool deeds at a friendship tore

Hot anger hot blame as cold waves wash ashore.

Self-contemplation, self-damnation.

Uncalculated step, a slip, body's wet, soon dry,

Fixing misplaced words not as easy a try.

Talk away your fears; listening, open ears.
